Wedding DIY or die trying

wow, so i haven't posted in a while but i have been working, going to grad school and planning my wedding, crazy right?

my wedding is a mix of vintage and modern elements, and it was important to me to make a lot of it myself, i think many brides feel this way.

my latest project was a guestbook, i had seen this guestbook on etsy and it was beautiful!

i knew i wanted something like it but the price tag was wayyy too steep for me, i am trying to do my wedding for about $8,000.

so this is what i came up with:


in total it cost me about $60 to make including the shadowbox frame (which i bought a really nice one for $30). guests will hopefully sign the leaves, and i will have a little sign that says "leaf your name for the bride and groom" or something like that.

i believe that it is possible to have a nice wedding without breaking the bank! i hope you do too!

the world is repinning my work! i love it. this is the first time i actually did something i saw on pinterest.... the how-to is super easy, you just need a glue-gun, tp tubes, ( i saved for 2-3 months) it depends on how big you want the piece to be in the end. and the last thing you need is paint/spray paint, i used acrylic craft pain because i already had it, and it matched my table (previous post) check it: again the design is completely up to you, i've seen a lot of different ones, it just depends on how many tubes you have! happy diy! :) update 4/24/12 what the tp art looks like on the wall.

Completed Wedding Presents!

A while ago I posted pictures of the wedding presents I have been working on. For the next stage, I picked out quotes or phrases I wanted to stencil on the wood. I used stencils I found in the Office supply area at Target. Here is a photo of the first two that I stenciled. Here is the story that I am attaching to the present about where the wood came from...   This piece of wood might not look like much, but it was picked with love from a stack of wood in my (Leslie’s) Grandpa’s workshop. My Grandpa would spend hours whittling, taking pieces like this and turning them into masterpieces.   I “borrowed” this run-down piece of wood and transformed it into something new, something personal just for both of you. 5 weddings and a.....

So I've got five weddings this summer....5! amazing, wonderful, celebratory, unbelievable love, wow! I am not into buying boring presents, so I've decided to make a home-made gift for each couple. These pieces of wood tell a story. My grandfather passed away last summer and he left a pile of wood that I took when we cleaned out his woodshop. I know that he had a plan for these pieces and I wanted them to find a home with a purpose. I will be turning them into some signage with the couples initials or last name or a quote. I'm not 100% sure yet what they will turn out to be, but that's the exciting part right? Phase One: Staining- Complete!
